What is the energy balance Equation?

Let’s break it down…
👉Energy is another word for “calories.”
👉Energy Balance = Energy Input (calories in) – Energy Output (calories out)
👉Weight loss occurs when you create a negative energy balance. That is, you burn more calories than you consume.
👉Weight gain occurs when you create a positive energy balance. That is, you consume more calories than you burn.
👉 Energy Input – What you eat and drink
👉 Energy output – BMR+ NEAT+ Exercise+ TEF
▪️BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)- is the number of calories your body needs to sustain life.
▪️NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) the activities you do apart from your planned workout (walking, playing with your kids, take your pet for a walk, dancing etc)
▪️Exercise- planned workout routine
▪️TEF (Thermic Effect Of Food)- associated with food digestion and utilization.
