Let’s break it down…
Energy is another word for “calories.”
Energy Balance = Energy Input (calories in) – Energy Output (calories out)
Weight loss occurs when you create a negative energy balance. That is, you burn more calories than you consume.
Weight gain occurs when you create a positive energy balance. That is, you consume more calories than you burn.
Energy Input – What you eat and drink
Energy output – BMR+ NEAT+ Exercise+ TEF
BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)- is the number of calories your body needs to sustain life.
NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) the activities you do apart from your planned workout (walking, playing with your kids, take your pet for a walk, dancing etc)
Exercise- planned workout routine
TEF (Thermic Effect Of Food)- associated with food digestion and utilization.
